Berlin, July 14, 2009 – The Berlin based software publisher O&O introduces its newest
imaging solutions for networks: O&O DiskImage 4 Workstation and Server Editions. In
the event of a disaster, once an image is created – complete, differential or incremental
– it is no longer necessary to start a time consuming reinstallation of all applications
and the operating system, as all data is once again readily available. Data loss is now a
thing of the past. As well as the continuous improvement and enhancement of existing
program components, there is now a broad selection of helpful and new functions
available in version 4.
For the first time, you can directly restore virtual hard disks of the type Microsoft
Virtual Hard Disc (VHD). The new graphic display of the hard disks and drives makes
managing data much easier, since it shows free and used space, as well as the size of
individual partitions. The computer Security ID (SID) as well as the computer name can
be changed, which protects the security of working groups and of removable disks
within the network. As with previous versions, the products are controlled over
networks using the new version of the O&O Enterprise Management Console 3.
New and advanced functions
Restoration of individual files: Image files from O&O DiskImage (OMG) can be
mounted as virtual hard disks as before. Individual files can be copied and
subsequently restored with the help of Windows Explorer.
Virtual Hard Disc (VHD): O&O DiskImage can convert images mounted as virtual hard
disks of the type Microsoft Virtual Hard Disc (VHD) to O&O DiskImage (OMG) image
files, and vice versa. A virtual hard disk can also be restored directly.
Changing the computer name and the computer SID: With O&O DiskImage it is
possible to change the computer name and the SID to guarantee the security of the
workstation environment and of removable media in the network. This might be
helpful, for instance, if you are restoring a system image onto several computers in the
network.
Additional compression type (BZIP): In addition to the already existing compression
type LZNT1, it is now also possible to compress data with the BZIP2 process. There are
now two renowned and different algorithms available for compressing data.
Visualization of the data: The graphical display of hard disks and drives - analogous to
the disk manager in Microsoft Windows – enables an intuitive selection of the disk to
be imaged or restored. Free and used space, as well as the size of individual partitions
is visualized, which greatly facilitates data management.
Snaphot functionality: It is also possible to create reliable images of individual volumes
or entire systems during running operations to prevent downtime in productive
systems. The Snapshot function with integrated cache ensures that the data imaged is
consistent with the exact moment that the imaging process began: changes to data
made by the user or applications will not affect the imaging. Only in this way is it
possible to create consistent images of systems which have to be available without
interruption.
Protection from data manipulation: Images created with O&O DiskImage 4 are
labeled with checksums so that any manipulation of data, which might occur due to
hardware defects or a virus, are recognized and notified.
Automation, scriptability and reporting: An extensively configured time scheduling
enables the comfortable creation of automated images. In addition, O&O DiskImage 4
can be controlled by script commands. Detailed reports keep users informed on all jobs
executed.
Advanced burn function: All important optical disks are supported by O&O DiskImage
4, and the images can be burned onto CD/DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD.
Prices and availability
A single license of O&O DiskImage 4 Server Edition full version is available for $359.00

competing commercial products in imaging, backup and security). The O&O DiskImage
4 Workstation Edition is only available as a volume license from 5+ seats, and the
highest volume price at the minimum 5 licenses costs $49.00 net per license. The
license program O&O EasyLicensing meets the varying needs of small and medium size
