Join in the fight against illegal software use!
Unfortunately, software piracy is still seen by many as a trivial
matter. However, the illegal use of software is punishable by high
fines or prison sentences of up to five years.
O&O Software GmbH is also increasingly affected by software
piracy. The worldwide success of O&O products brought with it a
dramatic increase in instances of piracy. Many firms do not pay
enough attention to proper licensing of the products they use. There
are also dishonest specialist distributors who, for example,
knowingly sell copied software with forged license details. This
affects not only O&O and our subcontractors, but also the
customers who buy and use such copies.
In order to act against software piracy more quickly and effectively in
the future, O&O Software GmbH became a member of the
Business
Software Alliance in January 2003.
90% of reported cases of unlicensed use of O&O products are
resolved by mutual agreement out of court. Direct reference to legal
measures is in this case prevented by amicable arrangements and the
resulting retrospective licensing. If, once caught, a company is
still uncooperative, legal proceedings are started, with possible
consequences ranging from compensation claims to binding legal
judgements from the relevant official bodies.
How can we help you?
Failure to properly license software is not always deliberate.
Even in relatively small companies, it can be difficult to keep
track of all the software purchased and used. We are happy to help
you work out the number of licenses needed and advise you as to the
best possible license program.
