Berlin, June 7, 2006 - Every user knows the problem: when a file is deleted, a gap is
left where the file was located on the storage media. At the next attempt to write
data, Windows immediately uses this space again. Should this not be sufficient to
allow the complete recording of the file, it is fragmented and the remaining data is
stored at another location. As a result it takes longer and longer for the system to
track down a requested file and to merge the fragmented sections with the original:
The performance of the entire computer is brought drastically to its knees.
This is where O&O Defrag V8.5 steps in, restoring lost capacity and maximizing the
entire systems performance. To this end O&O Defrag offers five defragmentation
methods, all of which were optimized again for the new version, enabling it to cater
for any size and number of partitions. The program detects and then implements the
optimum arrangement of files stored separately. To ensure such a cleaning up task is
never forgotten the refined Job Scheduler can be set to start up a defragmentation
task independently should the need arise.
The O&O OneButtonDefrag module operates independently and at the highest level,
establishing the optimum settings for each individual system – without any outside
help. This method cuts costs for Administrators of large networks in particular. The
optimization process can be started with just one click of the mouse.
Now with Defragmentation Screensaver
A defragmentation yields the perfect results when implemented as often as possible.
What is important with every cleaning up task is that users are not prevented from
carrying out their normal work. O&O Defrag offers two innovative modules in this
regard.
O&O ActivityGuard Pro: This module monitors the workload of the system resources
and through O&O Defrag adapts the usage according to the current status. This
means users can not only continue working on their PCs during the defragmentation
process, they can also implement resource-intensive procedures.
O&O Defrag Screensaver: The screensaver function, formerly only available
separately, is from version 8.5 onwards part and parcel of O&O Defrag. It starts
automatically during work breaks and immediately begins optimizing the computer.
As soon as users resume their work, the screensaver stops itself. The
defragmentation is interrupted, but only until the next work break. Frank Alperstädt,
Managing Director of O&O Software GmbH: "Whilst the screensaver is running it
displays an animated 3D Cluster graphic, all in real-time. This way every user can see
just how their Partition is being reorganized."
