O&O DiskImage 8 Server released: Protection against data loss on Windows Servers is now faster and easier than ever
Berlin, January 14, 2014 – O&O Software announces the release of its corporate solution for data backup, O&O DiskImage 8. O&O DiskImage can used to backup an entire system, individual drives, partitions, and selected files and folders. O&O DiskImage cannot only reconstruct data that’s been lost, it can also restore a crashed system – even on hardware of a different make. This is accomplished using a bootable medium (CD or USB stick) based on Windows PE. In just a few moments, the familiar working environment is up and running as if nothing ever happened. The time required for restoration is kept to a minimum which results in considerably lower downtime costs.
The newly integrated FTP access makes backup and restoration possible on both local as well as FTP servers so that even if there’s a total crash on the local network, data can still be accessed over the standard protocol. An additional feature is O&O DiskImage 8’s ability to create virtual hard disks directly, so-called VHDs. This removes the need for the former intermediate step that required creating a backup and then converting it into a VHD. Users can now save a considerable amount of time when creating virtual images.
Along with an intuitive user interface, O&O DiskImage 8 offers extensive scripting options that allow the user to run frequently occurring jobs quickly across a network or even on external systems with batch files.
As a result of revising the central control center, an administrator can run a complete backup of the entire system immediately after booting without any time-consuming configuration. In just a few steps, he can also create backup schedules and see which data was last backed up or if there are any drives that have not been backed up. The user can then add these to the backup and so increase the long-term level of data security on his system.
To optimize memory, the user can set how many backups should be saved so that older ones can be automatically replaced when new ones are created.
The new O&O DiskImage 8 supports all Windows versions starting from Windows 2003 and is also optimized for use on Windows Server 2012. Starting from Windows Server 2008, it’s possible to create a boot medium from directly within the program.
New and improved features
Scripting: Complete control and configuration of O&O DiskImage features using scripts for integration in batch files as well as individual applications.
Memory optimization: A maximum number of backups can be set so that older backups can be automatically overwritten.
Backup encryption: Data can be encrypted in O&O DiskImage 8 using the recognized AES process. O&O DiskImage supports especially high security levels with a key length of up to 256-bits. Backups can also be encrypted at a later moment in time.
FTP access: Enables direct backup as well as restoration via an FTP server (intern/extern). There’s no longer any need for integrating an external FTP server in a local network. The user can restore a crashed computer by accessing an FTP server, even when the local network has suffered a complete collapse.
Create a Windows boot system: Starting from Windows Server 2008, the current O&O DiskImage can create a bootable medium from directly within the program.
EFI/UEFI Systems: O&O DiskImage 8 supports current EFI/UEFI systems as well as the classic BIOS.
File Backup: Commercially available compression programs such WinZIP or 7-Zip can also be used independently of O&O DiskImage for restoring file backups containing only individual files and folders.
Backup without downtime: O&O DiskImage Server Edition includes a powerful snapshot mechanism that makes sure data being backed up corresponds exactly to the moment the imaging process began: changes to the database caused by the user or applications do not affect the running of the backup. The existing file system and the application environment have therefore no influence on the process. Only by harnessing this technology can consistent system images be created, while at the same time ensuring that the system runs without interruption, and remains continuously available.
System restoration with boot medium: O&O DiskImage can bring a system back to life immediately, and with no installation required. It does so using a bootable medium (USB stick or CD/DVD) based on Windows Server 2008 R2 and which contains all standard drivers. Additional drivers can be attached after starting up. Thanks to integrated system rescue tools, original systems can be restored and errors identified.
Advanced restoration environment with additional features: O&O BuildPE can be used to create an advanced recovery disk. Along with O&O DiskImage, this disk includes a number of useful tools, among them File Explorer, Reg-Edit, and a support program for partitioning.
Restoration onto different hardware (M.I.R.): With the integrated function M.I.R.(machine independent restoration) it is now possible to restore a system onto different hardware. Not only can an image or clone be restored onto servers and desktops with identical hardware, they can also be restored onto machines where, for example, the motherboard or processor has been changed. After the image has been restored, the new hardware can be adapted and the system can once again be started.
Virtual Hard Disc (VHD): O&O DiskImage can convert images of virtual hard disks from Microsoft (VHD) into O&O DiskImage image files and vice versa. A virtual hard disk can be directly restored.
Visualization of data: The graphical representation of hard disks and drives – similar to the disk management in Microsoft Windows – allows for an intuitive selection of the volumes that are to be backed up or restored. Both free and used memory and the size of each partition are displayed, which makes managing the data easier.
Integrating data from ISO files: Standard ISO files (ISO 9660) can now be mounted as virtual disks in addition to data image files.
Automatic updates: O&O DiskImage automatically checks if new program versions are available and so guarantees that data backup is performed using the latest advances in technology.
Email notification of activity: Administrators can request to be informed about the results of an activity such as the running of a job. Error messages are also sent immediately so administrators can quickly identify and resolve problems.
Various imaging methods: For a complete image, users can choose between an image of used sectors and an all-inclusive forensic image for purposes of data recovery. An incremental or differential image will only backup those data areas that have changed since the last image operation, thus saving space.
