What is WinRE?

The Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) is a recovery environment provided by Microsoft that runs outside of the regular Windows operating system. It contains basic tools for error diagnosis and system repair, such as system startup repair, loading restore points, restoring system images, and a command prompt for manual repairs.

What does O&O DiskImage do with it?

With the integration of O&O DiskImage Enterprise Edition in WinRE, you expand the recovery environment with powerful backup and restore functions. This allows you to:

• Restore complete system images
• Restore individual drives or partitions
• Extract files and folders from backups
• Restore backups to local disks or the network
• Create new backups – even if Windows doesn’t start

In addition, WinRE can be customized with O&O DiskImage, e.g., with custom drivers, scripts, or automated recovery processes.
