O&O DiskImage 7 released: Professional Backup also made easy under Windows 8
A regular backup of data is a must for PC users. Sadly most users shy away from it as they assume the implementation of security often requires in-depth technical knowledge. The new version 7 of O&O DiskImage proves the opposite. With just a few simple steps every PC owner can protect his important data against sudden loss.
Berlin, 17th October, 2012 -With O&O DiskImage, Berlin-based O&O Software has released its new solution for data backup which now also offers native support for Windows 8. The revamped Control Center enables users to make an image of their entire system immediately after starting the program with no laborious configuration required. O&O DiskImage also images single partitions and drives as well as files and directories. Details and time schedules for images and backups can be individually set so that O&O DiskImage lends itself perfectly to both private use and professional use for companies.
O&O DiskImage can not only reconstruct lost data but also restore a system image onto entirely different hardware in the event of a system crash. This is done by way of a boot medium (CD or USB Stick) based on Windows PE, which brings back the normal work environment after a disaster in just a short space of time.
New and enhanced functions
With the current O&O DiskImage it is possible from Windows 7 to create a boot medium directly from within the program. The current version supports not only systems based on BIOS but also the current EFI /UEFI systems.
File Backup:
For a file backup which just backs up files and folders, a readily available compression program such as WinZIP can be used for restoring the files.
Monitoring and security warnings:
The program contains an automatic monitoring function and warning messages are sent to users when an image is left undone for too long.
Integration of files from Standard ISO files:
Standard ISO files (ISO 9660) can be mounted as virtual hard disks, as well as data image files.
Clear user guidance:
The new Information Bar leads the user through the selected action and explains the next steps. Before starting the data image various options are displayed. Other options, such as closing down the computer after the backup is complete, can be selected during the processing of an action.
1-Click Imaging:
With just one click, users can create an image of the entire computer. The 1-Click Imaging is particularly useful when using O&O DiskImage for the first time or where a system image has never been created before.
Restoration onto different hardware (M.I.R.):
With the integrated function M.I.R. (machine independent restoration) it is now possible to restore a system onto different hardware. Not only can an image or clone be restored onto servers and desktops with identical hardware, they can also be restored onto machines where the motherboard or processor has been changed, for example. After the image has been restored, the new hardware can be adapted and the system is once again start-capable.
Various imaging methods:
For a complete image, users can choose between an image of used sectors and an all-inclusive forensic image for purposes of data recovery. An incremental or differential image will only backup those data areas that have changed since the last image operation, thus saving space.
Restoring individual files:
Image files from O&O DiskImage can be mounted as virtual hard disks. This enables single files to be copied and then restored with help from Windows Explorer, for example.
Virtual Hard Disc (VHD):
O&O DiskImage can convert images of virtual hard disks from Microsoft (VHD) into O&O DiskImage image files and vice versa. A virtual hard disk can therefore be directly restored.
Visualization of data:
The graphical representation of the hard disks and drives – similar to the disk management in Microsoft Windows – allows for an intuitive selection of the volumes that are to be backed up or restored. Both free and used memory and the size of each partition are displayed, which makes managing the data easier.
