O&O AutoBackup 8: Digital Sovereignty in Data Backup
With O&O AutoBackup 8, O&O Software introduces the new generation of its solution for the automatic backup and synchronization of files and directories. This completely redeveloped version builds upon the proven automatic backup concept by adding a new user interface, flexible backup tasks, S3- and WebDAV-compatible storage targets, and encryption and obfuscation for backed-up data. A standout feature is the intelligent backup of Microsoft OneDrive data to a local storage medium or an additional cloud storage service; this ensures digital sovereignty and protection against data loss—even within the cloud—since all operations take place on the user's own computer.
Connect. Back up. Done.
O&O AutoBackup automatically backs up data to an additional storage medium. When a USB drive designated for backup is connected to the computer, the assigned backup process can start automatically. This eliminates the need for the user to manually initiate regular backups every time.
O&O AutoBackup 8 allows users to set up multiple custom backup tasks. Sources can range from selected files and folders to entire folder structures and partitions. Different backup targets and methods can be defined for different datasets.
Backup and synchronization
For each task, users can specify whether data should be backed up or synchronized between the source and the destination. This makes O&O AutoBackup suitable both for creating extra security copies of important files and for regularly synchronizing frequently changing datasets.
In addition to internal drives, external hard drives, SSDs, and USB sticks can be used as storage targets. Specific removable drives can be assigned to individual backup tasks and automatically detected upon connection.
Include Microsoft OneDrive data in the backup
Cloud storage is not a backup. O&O AutoBackup 8 can now back up and synchronize data from Microsoft OneDrive locally. However, a common issue here is that the OneDrive storage volume exceeds the locally available space on the target drive, making a full backup possible only with significant manual effort—if at all.
To address this, O&O AutoBackup 8 employs an intelligent process that enables automatic backups to external media. This external medium can be a USB drive or even another cloud storage service.
Backup to S3 and WebDAV Cloud Storage
In addition to local and external drives, O&O AutoBackup 8 supports S3- and WebDAV-compatible storage as backup destinations. Users can add remote storage locations to their backup tasks and combine local, external, and S3/WebDAV-compatible destinations according to the specific requirements of each task.
Additional Protection via Encryption and Obfuscation
O&O AutoBackup 8 offers extra protection options for sensitive data. Backed-up data can be encrypted to safeguard it against unauthorized access, particularly on external or remote storage destinations. Furthermore, an obfuscation feature is available; it masks stored content and structures that might otherwise be inferred from the file and directory layout, thereby making it difficult to immediately identify the nature of the backed-up data.
New User Interface for Diverse Backup Tasks
The O&O AutoBackup user interface has been completely redesigned. It guides users step-by-step through the setup of a backup or synchronization task and clearly separates the data source, backup destination, and backup method.
This allows multiple backup jobs to be managed independently and tailored to specific datasets and storage destinations.
