Changes in the respective versions of O&O AutoBackup (Changelog)
Version 8.2
8.2.1014 – released on October 21, 2026
Added:
- Per mirror and sync set: send replaced and deleted files to the Recycle Bin or delete them permanently
- Quiet list per set: known problem files are still retried but no longer reported
- Excluded folders can be entered as a path or as a pattern using * and ?
- Clicking notifications in the system tray opens the corresponding page
- “Backup drive is full” notification indicating the required space
- “Waiting for a quiet moment” status when a scheduled run is waiting for the computer to become idle
Changed:
- An unreachable source is treated as a warning instead of an error; the remaining sources are backed up
- Advanced settings of a set can now be changed later in the pair details
- Exiting during a backup stops the operation cleanly after confirmation
- Cleanup of old versions now displays progress and is logged
- WebDAV checks each destination folder only once instead of before every file
- Notifications for automatic and manual runs have been standardized
- Consistent colored icons throughout the application
- Rounded ends for progress bars without a known remaining amount
Fixed:
- Older program versions could reset the configuration
- Encryption could be switched while an operation was running
- Files created or modified during a run could remain permanently missing from the destination or the other side
- Individual files selected as sources were not backed up
- Default exclusions incorrectly restricted explicitly selected folders (e.g., Outlook .ost files)
- Shortcuts (.lnk) were missing from backups
- Files renamed and modified simultaneously arrived at the destination with outdated content
- Online destinations: modified files of the same size were not backed up
- S3: modified files larger than 5 GB were not backed up
- WebDAV: names containing spaces, umlauts, “#”, or “%” appeared empty
- WebDAV and S3: large uploads failed on slow connections
- Subfolders deleted from the source and files deleted during a run remained in the mirror
- Minimum and maximum file size limits were not applied
- “Continuously”: changes made during a run are now backed up immediately afterward
- Fallback copies created when the Recycle Bin is unavailable are now reported and cleaned up
- “Delete permanently”: files that cannot be deleted are now reported and retried
- After cancellation, files already transferred are no longer transferred again
- A missing destination or all missing sources are reported as a failure; the command line returns error codes
- An unreadable source is reported instead of being considered “everything in sync”
- If preparation of a run fails, the card displays “Failed”
- Locked files no longer trigger an error notification in the system tray
- WebDAV and S3: full quotas, unreadable folders, and unresponsive servers are now reported
- Encrypted copies now report the actual reason for a failure
- The same pair can no longer run twice, even after waking from sleep
- Scheduled backups involving multiple pairs resume after sleep
- The first backup started from the wizard now respects sleep, drive removal, and battery operation
- Cancel and Skip now also work for scheduled backups that have never completed
- Deleted or disabled pairs no longer execute from an active queue
- A missing source drive no longer interrupts a run when another device is connected
- Canceling the settings dialog no longer discards the result of an ongoing backup
- Errors saving the configuration after scheduled runs are now displayed
- The license is recognized when another user launches the application for the first time
- The configuration remains removed after uninstalling the application along with its settings
- Smart App Control no longer blocks synchronization
- Restarting after a language change failed when the installation path contained spaces
- The command line now rejects ambiguous pair names (exit code 4)
- Tiles once again exclude NTUSER.DAT and the Outlook OST cache
- Backups can now be created using only additional folders
- Excluded folders: editing, duplicate detection, and labeling corrected
- Progress page: information about the current file and transferred amount corrected
- A missing source file is now reported as “A file is missing”
- The restore log now correctly counts failed files
- Clicking older notifications in the Action Center now opens the correct pair
- Confirmation dialogs from the system tray now appear centered on the screen
Info:
- Compatible with Windows 11 and Windows 10; x86, x64, and ARM architectures
- Available in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, and Simplified Chinese
Version 8.1
8.1.1011 – released on September 7, 2026
Added:
- Destination folder templates for backup, synchronization, and restore, including placeholders, nested folders, preview, and an option to disable them
- Destination path can be changed in the wizard for an individual run
- Warning when backing up or synchronizing directly to the root directory of a drive or network share
- NAS and network shares as a dedicated destination type with stored credentials and automatic reconnection
- “Open folder” for source and destination in pair details; multiple sources offer a selection
- Option to request confirmation before deleting destination files during a manually started mirror or two-way synchronization
- “Continue in background” on every progress page: the operation continues while the display returns to the home page
Changed:
- Clicking the card of a running operation opens its progress page
- Edit, Restore, and Cancel are no longer available on the card of a running operation; cancellation takes place on the progress page
- Card statistics are refreshed when an operation finishes, even if the home page remained visible during the run
- Deletion confirmation counts only items actually removed, not replaced files
- The “Add destination” tile remains visible in long destination lists; newly added destinations are automatically brought into view
Fixed:
- Synchronization uses the selected destination folder and no longer creates a hidden “Sync” subfolder
- Expired trial versions remain available without an internet connection and start in the intended overdue state
- Missing folders on network shares are created and available space is detected correctly
- Backup pairs with multiple sources receive unique names based on the number of source folders
- A damaged working directory under %TEMP% is automatically repaired at startup
- Update checks and dialogs start only once; the dialog appears centered when the main window is hidden
- Previously detected updates remain available after skipped or failed checks
- The first backup starts only after the setup question has been answered, rather than running in the background while the dialog is open
- Runs deferred to the next full hour are scheduled at least five minutes ahead; otherwise, the following hour is used
Info:
- Compatible with Windows 11 and Windows 10; x86, x64, and ARM architectures
- Available in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, and Simplified Chinese
