1. What is O&O DiskImage Enterprise Edition and who is it for?
O&O DiskImage Enterprise Edition is a professional imaging and backup solution for companies, government agencies, industrial plants and OEM environments. It enables the complete backup and recovery of Windows systems – including physical computers, virtual machines, server installations and industrial embedded PCs. Enterprise Edition is designed for IT departments, managed service providers (MSPs), and enterprises that require the highest levels of data security, system availability, compliance, and automated disaster recovery.
2. How does the Enterprise Edition differ from the Server Edition?
The Enterprise Edition offers a significantly expanded range of functions compared to the Server Edition and has been specially developed for large corporate networks, industrial environments and OEM scenarios. While the Server Edition is primarily designed for the backup and recovery of individual servers, the Enterprise Edition extends this approach with comprehensive automation, control and deployment functions.
These include completely unattended backups and restores, centralized WinRE integration for all clients in the enterprise, advanced scripting and CLI control, OEM and industry features such as machine-independent recovery (M.I.R.), automated boot media, and full network integration for large rollouts. In addition, the Enterprise Edition supports scenarios such as P2V, V2P and automated mass deployments, which are essential for complex enterprise infrastructures.
3. Does O&O DiskImage Enterprise Edition support recovery to different hardware (M.I.R.)?
Yes. The Enterprise Edition includes the “Machine Independent Restoration” (M.I.R.) function, which allows a system image to be restored to different hardware – even if the CPU, motherboard, mass storage or driver infrastructure differ. This allows failed systems to be replaced quickly, without new installations or complicated manual configurations.
4. Can O&O DiskImage Enterprise Edition be operated fully automatically?
Yes. The Enterprise Edition is fully scriptable and supports both command-line control (CLI) and embedding in automation processes through batch, PowerShell, or external deployment tools. Backups and restores can be performed without user interaction, including auto-restore, scheduled backups, and automated boot sequences in WinRE or on custom boot media.
5. How are backups distributed or stored in large network environments?
Backups can be stored centrally on network shares (SMB/CIFS), NAS systems, SAN environments, or dedicated backup servers. For industrial networks without Internet access, O&O DiskImage supports fully isolated environments. Backups can also be distributed or archived to different locations via scripts to meet compliance, redundancy, or long-term retention requirements.
6. Can images be mounted as drives and individual files extracted?
Yes. Images can be mounted as virtual drives, so that individual files or folders can be copied out as from a normal file system. This is especially useful for forensic evaluations, single-file restores, or reconstructing project states without having to restore an entire system.
7. What types of backups does O&O DiskImage Enterprise Edition support?
Full images, incremental and differential backups, 1:1 forensic sector images, live imaging without system interruption (hot imaging) and scheduled background backups are supported. In addition, physical systems can be converted to virtual image files (P2V) to simplify migrations or virtual test scenarios.
8. Does the Enterprise Edition support WinRE or custom boot environments?
Yes. The software can be fully integrated into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). In addition, you can create your own boot environments, including USB boot media, ISO files, WIM-based environments or OEM-adapted boot systems. These boot media can be equipped with automated processes, such as auto-restore or batch-controlled recovery scenarios for machine parks or rollouts.
9. Is O&O DiskImage Enterprise Edition suitable for industrial and OEM systems?
Yes. The Enterprise Edition is specially developed for scenarios in which systems are operated without a graphical user interface or in which extreme reliability is required. It supports embedded systems, machine control PCs, production lines, kiosk systems and OEM deployments. CLI control, auto-restore, robust error handling, and long-term compatibility make it ideal for industrial production environments.
10. How secure are backups and restores?
Backups can be protected with AES-based encryption. All images include checksums for guaranteed integrity control during recovery. Boot media is digitally signed and meets enterprise requirements for secure boot environments. In addition, storage can be done on secured network drives, NAS systems or redundant server structures.
11. Does O&O DiskImage Enterprise Edition support virtual environments?
Yes. O&O DiskImage supports P2V and V2P scenarios, which allows images to be transferred to and restored from virtual machines. This includes test environments, migrations, failover scenarios, and long-term archiving of legacy systems in virtual form.
12. What file systems and disk sizes are supported?
O&O DiskImage supports all modern Windows file systems, including NTFS, FAT, FAT32 and – depending on the configuration – ReFS. Large disks over 2 TB and GPT partitioning are also fully supported. Dynamic disks, RAID controllers, and Storage Spaces are also discovered and processed.
13. How can O&O DiskImage be integrated into existing IT processes?
With full CLI control, PowerShell support, script integration and automatable boot media, O&O DiskImage can be seamlessly integrated into existing processes such as deployment, patch management, monitoring, CI/CD pipelines or system maintenance routines. This makes it ideal for large IT organizations with automated infrastructure.
14. Is it possible to restore without user interaction?
Yes. With “Unattended Restore”, systems can be restored completely automatically – including automatic partitioning, driver adjustments and boot configuration. This is ideal for industrial environments, mass rollouts, schools, government agencies, MSP customers, and disaster recovery scenarios.
15. Are older image versions supported?
The Enterprise Edition offers extensive backward compatibility with earlier O&O DiskImage versions. This allows older backup assets to be reused or archived, supporting long-term business and compliance requirements.
16. What platforms and Windows versions are supported?
All current Windows client and server versions as well as various industrial Windows variants are supported. The software is compatible with UEFI, Secure Boot and modern firmware environments (depending on WinRE configuration). Both 32-bit and 64-bit environments can be used.
