O&O Defrag 25 Server: Avoid downtime on Windows Server Systems

O&O Defrag 25 Server can increase long-term performance as well as monitor the health and activity status on Windows Servers and PCs. It also extends the overall life expectancy of systems while reducing downtime significantly. The new O&O Defrag 25 Server Edition now offers even more: the integrated S.M.A.R.T. feature (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) warns users about problems that arise and informs them early enough about impending crashes on any particular disk. In this way, Windows Servers can be quickly adjusted and downtime avoided.

Analysis of drive health with SMART technology

In O&O Defrag 25, the S.M.A.R.T. feature has been integrated to indicate the health status of hard disks, SSDs, and RAIDs. If the temperature in a device gets too high or a drive reports an error, a notice will appear over the Windows Action Center.

O&O Defrag supports all 64-bit versions starting from Windows Server 2012

O&O Defrag Server Edition is compatible with Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2019, and the current Windows 11. It has been specially optimized for use with a low processor and storage capaci-ty on older systems.

Optimization of Solid State Drives (SSDs)

By using the SOLID/COMPLETE method, dispersed data on SSDs will be recombined and saved in fewer memory cells. This results in there being fewer read/write accesses to these memory cells being needed in the future. After defragmentation, the SSD is faster and its life expectancy in-creased thanks to the lower number of read/write accesses. And again, everything happens auto-matically in the background. Even a change from hard disk to SSD is detected and the optimization strategy adjusted accordingly.

New and enhanced features

Health check with S.M.A.R.T. functionality: In O&O Defrag 25, the S.M.A.R.T. feature has been integrated for the very first time. It indicates the health status of hard disks, SSDs, and RAIDs, for example, whenever temperatures are too high or a drive reports an error. In cases like these, S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) goes into action.

DeskBand for drive activity display in the Windows taskbar Starting with O&O Defrag 25, the user can have the read/write operations on individual drives displayed in the taskbar.

Windows Server 2019 support: O&O Defrag supports Windows Server 2019 in all available Editions.

Optimizing virtual machines (VMs) und Storage Area Networks O&O Defrag optimizes the actual memory allocation for virtual machines and SANs. O&O Defrag is especially useful for the host system of VMs to place the virtual storage areas that are created in the file optimally.

Automatic defragmentation: Automatic defragmentation is enabled by default after the installation of O&O Defrag and optimizes the disks in the background without slowing down the performance of the computer. Special procedures are initiated here to monitor the disk activity and ensure optimal use of system resources.

Install & That’s All: After installation, no further settings need to be configured. The program selects and implements the defragmentation method best suited to the system.

Windows CompactOS support: O&O Defrag supports the Windows 10-integrated feature for compressing system files so that more space can be kept free.

Shorter defragmentation times: With O&O Defrag, several drives can be defragmented simultaneously. In addition, the algorithms have been substantially accelerated, reducing the time required for a defragmentation by up to 35%.

Evaluation and analysis: Whenever the program is started, a manual analysis of all drives can be made and the level of fragmentation for each drive is displayed. It is also possible to display the most heavily fragmented files as well as the physical location of fragmented files on the hard disk. A dynamic block view appears during defragmentation and with the help of a before and after view, the user can get a total picture of the system’s optimization.

Block view of SSDs: To visualize the difference between the way data is saved on SSDs and hard disks, the block view illustrates the logical structure of an SSD.

History: O&O Defrag has clear graphics that display which defrag action has led to optimization success.

Automatic update: O&O Defrag automatically checks if newer program versions are available and so can guarantee that defragmentation is always done using the latest technology.

Defragmentation method SOLID/COMPLETE: SSDs save file fragments on more memory cells than needed. The resource and hardware-friendly SOLID/COMPLETE method defragments these file fragments so that only the number of memory cells required will be used for reading and writing in the future. SOLID/COMPLETE can be used on both SSDs as well as hard disks.

Defragmentation method SOLID/QUICK: This method, designed especially for SSDs, performs a superficial optimization. This method is faster than COMPLETE.

Defragmentation methods STEALTH, SPACE, and COMPLETE: The classical defragmentation methods STEALTH, SPACE, and COMPLETE were optimized even further. STEALTH and SPACE are now optimized for running defragmentation as quickly as possible whereas the COMPLETE methods also rearrange existing files completely. This requires considerably more time and disk space. Making the best use of available disk space also helps prevent new fragmentation from occurring. All methods can be used on any drive, including the storage space, volume and stripe sets- and of course provide maximum protection against system failure.

Zone filing on drives: A logical separation of data into performance-critical and non-critical files is conducted through an alternative setting which divides drives into so-called zones. Files are sorted based on their use and access frequency and moved into appropriate zones. For example, system and program files that need to be accessed very quickly are separated from other data such as documents and downloads. Fragmentation is prevented intelligently through the separation of files written rarely or frequently. This logical arrangement not only shortens the duration of the system or program start, but also prevents fragmentation of program files from ever occurring.

Power management for Notebooks: As soon as mobile systems such as Notebooks are no longer connected to external power sources, the defragmentation is interrupted so that the full battery power is available for mobile workers.

O&O DiskCleaner: Searches for and removes temporary and superfluous files that use up memory and increase fragmentation. O&O DiskCleaner also increases the data protection and security of a system as such files often contain private content (e.g. Thumbnails, document copies, email drafts, Dumps) as copies.

Supporting vertical contrast modes: The current version has improved the high contrast mode to facilitate recognizing objects on the screen.

Variable DPI settings: O&O Defrag adapts optimally to the selected DPI setting.

User interface: The O&O Defrag user interface went through a general overhaul to make use even easier.
