1. What is O&O FileDirect?
O&O FileDirect is a secure, GDPR-compliant web service for the simple sending and receiving of files – without installation, without registration of the recipient and fully usable in the browser. Files are transmitted encrypted and can be shared via link or email.
2. How secure is O&O FileDirect?
O&O FileDirect relies on client-to-client encryption and a zero-knowledge concept: Data is encrypted before it leaves your device and can only be decrypted by the recipient. All servers are located in Germany, are GDPR-compliant and do not store any files permanently. There are no backdoors or access routes for third parties.
3. Do I need to install software?
No. O&O FileDirect works completely in the browser. You open the website, select a file, get a link, and share it as needed. Recipients also need no software and no registration.
4. What devices and operating systems are supported?
O&O FileDirect works on all modern devices – Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android. All that is needed is a browser. File sending and receiving is possible across systems without restrictions.
5. How big can files be?
The free version allows you to send files up to around 1-2 GB, depending on registration. Higher data volumes are available in the Personal and Professional plans: up to 2 GB per file in the Personal plan and unlimited file size, and up to 10 TB of total volume in the Professional plan.
6. Will my files be stored permanently?
No. O&O FileDirect does not store files permanently. The data is only available for the duration of the release and is then automatically deleted. Expiration times can be set individually.
7. Who can see or download my files?
Only people who have the share link. Optionally, you can also protect the share with a password. Detailed access logs show you when and by whom your file was accessed.
8. Can I request uploads from other people?
Yes. You can create secure upload links that other people can use to transfer files directly to you, again without registration. Uploads can be protected with password, expiration date, and logging.
9. Is O&O FileDirect GDPR compliant?
Yes. O&O FileDirect is operated entirely in Germany, is subject to German data protection laws and meets all requirements of the GDPR. No data will be transferred to third countries. There is a special, extended tariff for authorities.
10. Can I send multiple files at the same time?
Yes. You can upload individual files or entire folders at once. O&O FileDirect processes these automatically and creates a shared sharing link.
11. Can I revoke my approvals later?
Yes. Any sharing can be deactivated or deleted at any time. After that, access to the files is no longer possible.
12. What are the advantages of the paid tariffs?
The Personal and Professional plans offer larger file sizes, more total sending volumes, increased upload quotas, advanced security features, unlimited recipients, and up to 10 TB of transfer volumes, depending on the plan. This is ideal for businesses, teams, and professional workflows.
13. Can O&O FileDirect also be used in companies?
Yes. O&O FileDirect is particularly suitable for companies, authorities and organizations that need to exchange large files securely, quickly and in compliance with the GDPR. Thanks to password protection, expiration dates, logging and German servers, the service meets high security and compliance requirements.
14. Is my data protected in transit?
Yes. All data is encrypted before uploading and transmitted exclusively encrypted. The recipient decrypts the file locally on their device. O&O cannot view the files at any time.
15. What happens if the recipient does not have an up-to-date browser?
In rare cases, an outdated browser may not fully support certain security or file features. O&O FileDirect will then automatically point this out. An update of the browser is usually enough to receive the file without any problems.
16. Can I see if a file has been downloaded?
Yes. Built-in access logging shows you exactly when and how many times a file has been downloaded. If you wish, you will be informed about downloads by e-mail.
17. How long will my files remain available?
You determine the availability yourself. Files can be deleted automatically after a one-time download, after a certain period of time, or manually. After expiration, they are no longer available.
18. Can I use O&O FileDirect privately?
Yes. O&O FileDirect is also ideal for private users – for example, for exchanging photos, videos, documents or other large files that cannot be sent by e-mail.
19. What are the advantages of O&O FileDirect compared to traditional cloud services?
